PMI Standards Program's objective is to develop standards for the project management profession that are valued by PMI members, the marketplace and other stakeholders.

By identifying, defining, documenting and championing generally accepted project management approaches and a common project management lexicon, PMI Standards assist in improving the competence of experienced and new project management practitioners worldwide. Ultimately, PMI Standards will lead to worldwide excellence in the practice of project management through consistently applied project management standards.

Currently, the PMI supports over 95,000 members in 125 countries worldwide. PMI members are individuals practicing and studying project management in many different industry areas, including aerospace, automotive, business management, construction, engineering, financial services, information technology, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications.

Over time, PMI has become, and continues to be, the leading professional association in project management.
